Bookstall is NOT on today 20th Dec BUT...

Look, you shouldn't rely on me doing what I say I will when I say I will. Hopefully I can drag myself down to the market this week after last week's no-show. It's nearer Saturnalia after all. Everything in last week's post applies again. Feel free to chastise me for my unreliability. If you can't make it down, see you all in January. Andrew.

Bookstall is NOT on today Dec 13th BUT...

All is not lost. Although I'm not doing the stall today (the competition for stalls is too fierce at this time of year and, let's face it, my books aren't really Christmassy) I'll still be around using the market's wifi.

The free box will be stocked with fresh stuff as I want to have a bit of a clear out. Lots to offload, so come on down, I'm here to be exploited! Andrew.

Friday 5 December 2014

Bookstall is on today Dec 6th

Well, the forecast looks to be the best we've had in weeks. There's no excuse not to come down to the stall and stock up on some reading material for over the Christmas period. Make a New Year's resolution to get some drawing pencils and have a go yourself. You've got to be better than Tracey Emin.

This may be the last time I do the stall this year as spaces are at a premium for the next couple of weeks. We are back on January 10th. As an incentive to drag yourself away from Wheeler Dealers on Quest TV, EVERYONE who comes down to the stall and says the following will get one or two free catalogues:
                       "Oi, where's my Christmas treat?"

I expect to see you all. Andrew.

P.S. If you go to www.questtv.co.uk you can watch the shows On Demand.

Friday 28 November 2014

Bookstall is on today Nov 29th

Well, after last week's non-start it looks as though we are in for a fine day. You'll be able to see the new stuff from last week plus some other goodies as well.

As an incentive, the first person to repeat the following Spike Milligan verse will be able to pick two free catalogues of his/her choice.

                  "The one-L lama he's a priest,
                    The two-L llama he's a beast,
But I will bet a silk pyjama
                    There isn't any three-L lllama"

The punctuation may be wrong but then I haven't seen it written down in over thirty years. Another easy comp. See you soon, don't miss out, Andrew.

Friday 21 November 2014

Bookstall is on today Nov 22nd

Ever the optimist I'm hopeful that the rain will hold off and that the BBC forecast is wrong again. There are catalogues for forthcoming sales including contemporary art, design and Old Masters. Something for everyone. I have some die-cast metal figurines and yet more cigar boxes.

As an incentive to come down to the market the first person who asks the following question can choose two free auction catalogues:

"Do Scousers suffer from Irritable Vowel Syndrome?"

Dead easy. See you soon, Andrew

Friday 14 November 2014

Bookstall is on today Nov 15th

I thought the weather was going to be a bit iffy, but we might just get away with it. More new catalogues including the two Warhols from this week's sale in New York - see what US$150 million buys you. The two catalogues come in a nice slipcase as well. I've a load more cigar boxes including a couple of nice Cohiba ones.

As an incentive to come down to the stall, the first person to repeat the following will be able to pick two catalogues for free of his/her choice (but not the two mentioned above):

"The All Blacks are such a great side, I think they'll win the World Cup"

It can't be simpler. Come on down, don't miss out! Andrew

Friday 7 November 2014

Bookstall is NOT on today Nov 8th

No room at the inn this week. I tried to book on Tuesday but all available pitches were taken. Never mind, the weather forecast has changed every day this week - at the moment there looks like rain in the morning and afternoon. I'll be able to go to the pub to watch the mighty All Blacks defeat the English upstarts (this post may be edited later).
I may put in an appearance at some point before the rugby to sort a couple of things out. I'll be putting up posts soon about an upcoming moa skeleton and a Maori Wars medal to the son of the founder of Harrod's. Until next time, Andrew.

Friday 31 October 2014

Bookstall is on today Nov 1st

There might be a bit of pesky rain in the morning, but hopefully we'll get most of the day in. Yet more new books on contemporary art, design and photography, as well as more catalogues for forthcoming sales.

As an incentive, the first person to repeat the following will receive two free auction catalogues of his/her choice:
"I've come to the park to buy books on art"

Not difficult is it! See you soon. Andrew.

Friday 24 October 2014

Bookstall is on today 25th October

Yes, it's been awhile. The weather looks like being good so we should get a full day in. I've got lots of new stuff including Asian, Islamic, and Contemporary Art catalogues from last week at Sotheby's, Christie's, Bonhams, and Phillips. the catalogues are all only £2.00 each, there's a free box and a 99p box as well.

As an incentive, the first person to say the following will receive 2 free catalogues of his/her choice:
               "Thank Heavens for Julian Assange,
                 Now I can rhyme duck a l'orange"

Come on down, I've a lot of cigar boxes as well. Andrew.

Saturday 11 October 2014

I'm back!

Actually, I didn't go away I'm just lazy. I've bought myself an iPad Air so hopefully I'll do more on here.

Saturday 1 February 2014

Bookstall is NOT on today 1st February

I know the sun is shining and I should be doing the stall, but this week has taken too much out of me on the bike. Hopefully I'll be back next week when things have had a chance to dry out.

Tuesday 21 January 2014

Ski Posters at Christies Sth Kensington 22nd Jan 2014

Christie's in London will hold it's annual Ski Sale on 22nd January. 208 lots, of which 181 are posters.
Roger Broders (1883-1953) - Col du Grand St Bernard. Estimate: £2,000-3,000
You can look at the catalogue here.

This is the dawning of a new era

I could go on about how useless I am, but you've heard it all before on more than one occasion, so I wont bother. Let's see if I can do better.

Everyone likes things for free, I'm certainly no exception. The chaps over at Fingertips Music (here) search out free and legal .mp3s and make them available to the likes of you and me. Here's a link to Phosphorescent's The Mermaid Parade from 2010.
