Bookstall is on today June 30th

   Hopefully this early rain will stop and I'll be able to get to the market. Quite a few new things this week and a number of catalogues for forthcoming sales. There's a free box under the table so have a browse in there as well.

Vintage posters online auction at Onslows 29th June

   Onslows are holding the first of its bi-annual online auctions of vintage posters on June 29th. 372 lots covering travel, wartime and general advertising themes.

I'm running late so basically this is a repeat of last week's post. It's another blustery day but hopefully it will not rain. Lots of new stuff this week, come on down for some cheap art books. There's a free box under the table so have a browse in there as well.

Maori whaleone club at Tennants, Leyburn, |N. Yorks, June 22nd

   There is a Maori whalebone club coming up for sale at Tennants Auctions, in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, on Friday, June 22nd as part of its Militaria & Ethnographica sale.

   'A 19th Century Maori Whalebone Wahiaka (Hand Club), with fine aged patina, of curved form, the handle pierced through for attachment and terminating with the head of a mythological figure with inlaid red sealing wax eyes, the tapered blade pierced along one edge, the opposing edge carved in relief with a Tiki figure with abalone shell eyes inlaid with red sealing wax, overall length 31.5cm.'

   Update:  The taiaha sold for £800 and the wahaika sold for a whopping £19,000 against an estimate of £2,000-3,000!

Raymond Ching painting at Woolley & Wallis, Salisbury, June 13th

There is a painting by the New Zealand-born wildlife artist Raymond Harris-Ching at the Salisbury, Wiltshire, auction rooms of Woolley and Wallis on June 13th.

Estimate: £3,000-5,000

2 Adam Styka paintings at auction this month

   There are a couple of Adam Styka paintings coming up at auction this month. First up is an oil on canvas at Sotheby's in London as part of the European Paintings sale on June 11th.

Estimate: £20,000-30,000

African & Oceanic Art at Sotheby's Paris June 12th

   Sotheby's in Paris is holding a sale of African and Oceanic Art on June 12th. Whilst the majority of the 137 lots on offer are from Africa (as you'd expect at a French sale) there are a few from the Pacific region including three Maori lots shown below. The estimates will make your eyes water, though.
Maori feather box, length 48cm. Estimate: €30,000-40,000

Maori greenstone tiki, height 13½cm. Estimate: €40,000-60,000
Maori whalebone club, length 47cm. Estimate: €15,000-20,000
